Schoolz Privacy Policy

Last updated 2 September 2026 · Applies to the Schoolz mobile app (com.geekingout.schoolz), the per-school Schoolz apps, and the school websites operated on the Schoolz platform by Geeking Out LLC.

Schoolz is a communications app for schools, districts and community organizations. It has no user accounts: nobody signs up, signs in, or creates a profile to read a school's news, calendar, photos or resources. You can use the whole app without giving us anything about yourself.

Who is responsible for your information

Each school or organization controls the content it publishes and the information people send it. Geeking Out LLC operates the platform on that school's behalf as its service provider, and handles information only to run the service and on the school's instructions. If you want to know how a particular school uses information you gave it, contact that school directly.

What we collect

Information you type into a school's form. Schools publish forms — an absence report, a permission slip, a contact request. You only send one if you choose to fill it in. Depending on the form a school has built, it may ask for things such as a name, an email address, a phone number, a student's name and grade level, free-text notes, and file attachments. This goes to that school. We store it so the school can read and act on it.

Anonymous usage counts. We record page views to know which pages are used. These are not tied to a name, an account, or an advertising identifier, and we do not build profiles from them.

Crash and performance diagnostics. When the app errors or a page loads slowly, it reports what went wrong and how long things took, so we can fix it.

Push notification registration. If you allow notifications, Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging issues your device a registration token and subscribes it to your school's notification topic. We send to the topic, not to individual devices, so we do not keep a list of device identifiers.

What we do not do

Children's information

Schoolz is used by school communities, so information about children can pass through it — typically a parent or guardian entering a student's name and grade on a form the school published. We treat that information as the school's, use it only to deliver it to the school, never use it for advertising or profiling, and never sell it. We comply with the Google Play Families policy and, where it applies, with COPPA and New York State Education Law §2-d. Schools remain responsible for obtaining any consent their own policies or laws require.

How your information is protected

All traffic between the app and our systems is encrypted in transit using TLS. Submissions are stored in an access-controlled database where a school's staff can reach only their own school's records. Files parents attach to forms are kept in private storage and are only reachable through short-lived links issued to that school's administrators.

We use a small number of vendors strictly to operate the service. They act on our instructions and may not use the information for their own purposes:

How long we keep it

Form submissions are kept for as long as the school needs them, and are deleted when the school deletes them or when its use of the platform ends. Diagnostic logs are kept for up to 90 days. Anonymous usage counts are kept in aggregate.

Accessing or deleting your information

To ask what information we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted, email privacy@geekingout.net. Tell us the school involved and roughly when you submitted the form, so we can find the right record. We will respond within 30 days. If the information belongs to a school, we will act on that school's instruction and let you know.

Because Schoolz has no accounts, we usually cannot connect a request to a person without these details — that is a consequence of not tracking you, and we would rather keep it that way.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle information we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be announced in the app.
